MSDI Framework Stewards/Leads Workshop

When:  Thursday, February 4, 2010; 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

Where:  Lewis Room, Colonial - Red Lion Hotel, Helena, MT

Purpose:  Develop best practices, standards and guidelines for MSDI Stewardship.

**Agenda:

  • What do you see as the technical infrastructure (e.g., portal, web services, etc.) necessary to manage and deliver your framework layer?  What do you see as the political/organizational barriers to accomplishing your goals?
  • How should the technical requirements of theme stewardship “drive” policy issues?  How should policy drive the technical infrastructure?
  • How do we better interact/communicate?
    1. Between stewards/leads
    2. With users
    3. With the GIO and MLIA Council
  • How should framework layers and services be identified in the Portal?
  • What are the minimal requirements for Montana Framework themes?
    1. Consistent state-wide data
    2. Data Standards
    3. Metadata
    4. Maintenance Program/Plan
    5. Portal Registration
    6. Distribution Plan/Mechanism
    7. Service link or support

  • What type of services should be required of theme stewards?

  • What and how to report at the Intermountain in April?

Outcome: 

Identification of MSDI Framework Themes “Best Practices”, potential policy issues for the MLIA Council, and preparation for reporting to MAGIP members at the April 2010 Intermountain Conference.

**There will two open opportunities for public comment/input; morning and afternoon.
