Call for Presentations

The Montana Association of Geographic Professionals (MAGIP) and the 2027 Big Sky GeoCon Planning Committee invite you to share your expertise, projects, and insights at this year’s conference. Join us from April 12–16, 2027, at the Heritage Inn in Great Falls, MT, as we explore how geospatial technology grounds us while driving us forward.

This year's conference theme is "Staying Connected to Our Geographic Roots in a Changing World." With the endless evolving of technologies, it is still important to remember that local knowledge, professional relationships and geography matters!

Whether you are a seasoned professional or new to the field, Big Sky GeoCon is your platform to inspire the region's GIS community. We welcome proposals for traditional papers, live electronic demonstrations, and interactive panel discussions from across federal, state, local, tribal, educational, and private sectors.

We are currently seeking presentations and panels across these key focus areas:

  • Cartography
  • AI in GIS
  • Python & Automation
  • UAS & Remote Sensing
  • Conservation & Natural Resources
  • Emergency Services & NG9-1-1
  • Government
  • AEC, Engineering Design, Asset Management & Utilities
  • GIS in Health
  • Census

Submit your abstract today to help shape the conversation and collaborate with peers from across the Big Sky region!

Deadline for submission January 11, 2027 at 11:59 pm.

Notification of acceptance on or before February 5, 2027.

Accepted presenters will be expected to register for at least one day of the conference unless only attending to present.

Click the Register button now to submit your presentation! If you plan to submit multiple presentations, please create a separate submission for each.

NOTE: It is not permissible for speakers to use their time to advertise or promote a product or service.

The conference committee will evaluate each presentation submission based on five scoring categories:

  • Relevance

  • Member Benefit

  • Quality/Clarity

  • Originality/Innovation

  • Quality/Depth of Content

Each category will be scored on a scale of 1–5. Please provide enough detail in your "Session Details" to help reviewers assess your submission across as many categories as possible.

Bonus points will be awarded to presenters who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Are active MAGIP members

  • Are currently enrolled university students

  • Are conference sponsors or exhibitors for the current or previous year (previous 3 years)

On behalf of your 2027 Big Sky GeoCon Planning Committee, we look forward to your participation!
