The Professional Development Committee will be meeting Wednesday, January 29th at 4:00 in the MSL Bitterroot conference room. We will be discussing MAGIP supporting GISP by giving financial assistance to members that were applying for their GISP and will be drafting a proposal to submit to the board.
This topic original came up over a year ago when the West Virginia Association of Geospatial Professionals passed a resolution to recognize GISCI and to reimburse 50% of the GIS certification or renewal fee for its members who reside or work in West Virginia. http://www.wvagp.org/upload/resolutions/GISCI_Certification_6_15_2011.pdf
Some questions to think about: Is it a good idea? How much financial support should we give? Would there be a requirement to be MAGIP members for a set time? Do we pay the fee upon submission of the GISP application or after they receive their GISP? Do we assist everyone or a limited number?
This meeting is not limited to just Professional Development Committee members. If you have an interest in how MAGIP is supporting GISP please attend the meeting in person or by phone.
